To be legally married in Jamaica the following information applies:
Waiting Period – Provided that you have applied for and have been granted a marriage license by the Ministry of National Security, a couple can be married just 24 hours after arriving on the island; otherwise couple must be in Jamaica at least 48 hours (2 business days) to qualify for the granting of a marriage license.
Required Documents – Send to the marriage officer in advance a certified copy of your birth certificate (one with a raised seal), which includes your father’s name. Parent’s written consent, if one of you is under 18. Proof of divorce (if applicable) - original Certificate of Divorce is required. Certified copy of Death Certificate for widow or widower. If paperwork is not in English, a notarized translated copy of all documents and photocopy of the original document is needed.
Blood Test – No blood test is required.
Marriage Ceremony – The marriage must be performed before 6:00 PM and two witnesses must be present at the ceremony and for the signing of the marriage certificate.
Marriage Officer - We can arrange for a marriage officer depending on your religious affiliation. Please advise, should you require a rehearsal with the marriage officer.
